Professional Career

37 Years in Commercial Real Estate Appraisal

Chris began his professional career in 1989 as a commercial real estate appraiser at Star Bank, which later became U.S. Bank. During his tenure there, he rose to Senior Appraiser and Assistant Vice President, overseeing commercial appraisal ordering and review across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee.

In 2002, he founded The Reinersman Company, providing real estate appraisal and construction draw inspection services. In 2017, Chris joined Valbridge Property Advisors—North America's largest independent commercial appraisal and valuation firm—as a Senior Appraiser.

Public Service

From City Council to Mayor

After witnessing firsthand both the successes and challenges of suburban development throughout his career, Chris ran for Independence City Council in 2010 with the goal of helping guide growth in his hometown toward a more sustainable and attractive future. Following two terms on Council, he was elected Mayor, serving three terms.

During his tenure, Chris focused on managing the inevitable growth while maintaining strict fiscal discipline. Independence's tax rate was consistently reduced—ultimately reaching its lowest level since 2008—while city services were significantly expanded.

Under Chris's leadership, the city successfully shifted away from a long-standing reliance on residential property taxes, with business becoming the city's primary source of revenue. This strategy not only strengthened Independence's financial position but these new employers resulted in expanded shopping and entertainment options for residents and visitors alike.

County & Regional Leadership

As mayor, Chris also took on leadership roles at the county and regional levels, serving as Chairman of the Northern Kentucky Independent Health Department Board of Directors, Chairman of the Kenton County Planning and Development Services Management Board, and Chairman of the Kenton County Mayors Group, as well as various committees and other organizations.

He became an active advocate in Frankfort on issues affecting local communities, including the state pension system, law enforcement concerns, and zoning and land-use policy. By building strong relationships with legislators and fellow local officials, Chris helped advance meaningful, positive change for Independence and Kenton County.
