On December 19, 2025, Chris Reinersman announced that he would not seek reelection as Mayor of Independence in 2026. Instead, he will run for the position of Kenton County Property Valuation Administrator (PVA).

"My 37 years in real estate appraisal work along with the insights gained from serving as mayor and leadership positions on county and regional boards have prepared me well for the responsibilities of PVA," Reinersman said in his announcement.

Chris Reinersman Announces Run for Kenton County PVA

Chris Reinersman, currently serving as Mayor of Independence, announced his candidacy for Kenton County Property Valuation Administrator. He filed for candidacy on December 19, 2025, with the Kentucky Secretary of State's Office. In his announcement, Reinersman emphasized his 37 years of real estate appraisal experience and 16 years of proven leadership as mayor.

Chris Endorses Carol Franzen for Mayor

In his announcement, Chris Reinersman endorsed Carol Franzen, a current city council member for Independence, as his successor. "Knowing that Carol Franzen—someone with deep experience, dedication, and a genuine passion for this community—is stepping forward to run for mayor gives me great confidence," Reinersman stated. "I am fully supportive of her candidacy, and I truly believe the city will be in excellent hands moving forward."
